Anteadote

One of the nice things, an unexpected bonus, to running a tea blog has been the free stuff. Even bad tea is kind of fun when someone took the time to give it to you. Though this time the free tea has nothing to do with the blog and everything to with the fact I have no life and spend an inordinate amount of my free time on TeaChat. Adagio recently introduced a new flavor of their Anteadote bottled tea, Oolong, which I understand uses TGY, and asked their more chatty users if they would like a free case.

To which I said, "Yes, please."

I received the case a few days ago, and I thought it would be just the Oolong, but it turns out to be an even mix of all five flavors.

Adagio's Anteadote is a line of five organic ready-to-drink (RTD) teas, Green, Jasmine Green, White, Black, and now Oolong. They're all sugar and sweetener free and only three ingredients, water, tea, and vitamin C.

The Green and White are my least favorite. There's a funky taste that I can't place, and to be honest, they're kind of hard to tell a part. That being said, they're still better than most of the bottled alternatives. The Oolong isn't much different, but I like it a bit more.

The Jasmine Green is pleasant enough. Nice and jasmine-y, moderately astringent. I have a small appetite for jasmine tea; its nice every now and then, and it went well with my dinner.

The one that really excites me is the Black Tea, made with dian hong. I think dian hong cha is vastly superior to most other types of black tea, and while I am sure that Adagio is using a very low grade, I still prefer it to the standard Indian, Ceylon, or African tea that you usually find in RTD teas.

Thanks again, Adagio.

Have you tried comparing these to the Itoen stuff?

Marshal: yeah, check it out:

I'm sure there's a snazzy HTML ways of making that clickable, but...

I know they're two entirely different species but...

How would you compare the green tea variety with Lipton's Diet Green tea beverage in flavor? You mentioned "funkiness", and I wanted to know if this was common to the more commercial stuff Lipton makes.

Sorry, garett, but I haven't had any of the lipton teas.

Hang on while I grab another bottle and try to describe the "funkiness" in better or more acurate terms....

hmm, still no luck. My best guess is that the flavor I can't identify has something to do with the vitamin c, but i can't imagine what it would be.

Yeah, it's the vit c.

I agree that the Black was pretty good. It actually tasted like TEA. I can't say that about most bottled teas.

I've had the Lipton diet green, and it DOES NOT taste like tea. It tastes like vitamin C and sweetener with some "green flavor" thrown in. Not even close to the Adagio. The Adagio has a slight funkiness, particularly at the end, but it still tastes like green tea.

Ok, that's right, I forgot -- although I was thinking more for their oolongs.

Then again... Itoen should probably win again for us tea nerds.

Okay, I tried the Ito en golden oolong today, and yeah, its a bit nicer. Ito en tastes kind of roasted.
